San
Diego, California (December 7, 2009)
American off road racing champion, Andy McMillin, culminated an incredible
desert racing season with an exclamation point on Saturday, December 5,
2009, as he raced his #31 Ford F150 Trick Truck to an impressive overall
victory at Best in the Desert’s Henderson Desert Classic. The victory
clinched the season championship for McMillin Racing led by San Diego
business executive, Scott McMillin.
Just
off a winning performance at the biggest off road race of the season, the
SCORE Tecate Baja 1000, Andy McMillin was prepared like he’s never been
before, for the final race of the season. McMillin Racing Crew Chief, Greg
Williams, worked relentlessly after the SCORE Baja 1000 and prepped the
Geiser-built Ford truck in a very short time between the two races. In
fact, after returning from Mexico, McMillin Racing only had a mere 14-days
in between the two championship races.
Greg
commented, “With Andy leading the points in the chase for the BITD
Series Championship, we had a strategic plan for prepping the truck after
the Baja 1000. Everything fell into place and it went just as planned.
Kevin Kroyer and his crew build an incredible power train and winning the
Baja 1000 and coming to the Henderson Desert Classic in the hunt for the
season championship, we felt like we were in good shape. In the end it all
worked out!”
Victory
at the BITD Henderson Desert Classic marked the first ever season
championship for Andy McMillin in the elite Trick Truck class. “We are
very excited to have won the season championship. This season has been
incredible with winning five overalls throughout the year. A huge thanks
goes out to our crew and team of volunteers. Special thanks to my Mom and
Dad and to all of our sponsors,” said a smiling Andy McMillin.
Racing at speed across the torturous desert, Andy McMillin teamed with his
father, Scott McMillin, for the entire 2009 Best in the Desert Series and
captivated the fans of desert racing by dominating the competition in the
McMillin Realty sponsored race truck. Andy began the season with a brave
performance at the Parker 425 race, where racers faced not only the
desert, but a massive storm front that tested the mettle of man and
machine. In the end, McMillin Racing overcame all obstacles earning the
overall victory among a huge field of race teams.
The father/son dynamic duo prepared their strategy for the three-day
endurance test over 1000-miles of Nevada’s roughest desert terrain at
the Vegas to Reno race. Both Scott and Andy endured and overcame the
trials and tribulations of the first two days of racing and by day three,
Andy was given the green light to charge for the win. Indeed, the young
San Diego off road racer beat the competition by a mere 3-minutes. After
1000 miles of off road racing, the young McMillin racer drove across the
finish line with a cumulative time of 17 hours, 47 minutes and 52 seconds
earning the overall victory.
In the final race of the BITD season and coming off the big victory in
Baja. Andy climbed into his office chair behind the wheel of the 800 +
horsepower Geiser-built Kroyer-powered Trick Truck for the final race of
the year. Andy started off with a great pace and by the halfway point of
the race he was leading physically and on corrected time.
At
the finish line Andy commented, “The truck ran great all day long. We
couldn’t be any happier with the performance. Wow, what a great season.
Winning the championship is something special and we couldn’t do it
without all of our sponsors, friends and family. Thanks to everyone
involved.”
The 2009 McMillin Racing season featured seven races in which the #31
McMillin Realty sponsored race truck earned the “OVERALL” five times.
Epic performances by the entire McMillin Racing team at each of the races
allowed the team to clinch the Best in the Desert Championship trophy.
Team owner/driver Scott McMillin commented, “It really has been a great
year. Racing at this level is certainly not easy, but we’ve surrounded
ourselves with the best in the business and we produced fantastic results.
It’s not without extreme passion by all of those involved with our team
to perform at the top level. We really have great sponsors and it is
wonderful to be associated with such companies.”
The 2009 McMillin Racing team is sponsored by: BFGoodrich Tires, Eibach
Springs, FOX RACING SHOX, KMC Wheels, K&N Air Filters, Ford, Vision X
